Third year student enrolled in a mathematics bachelor at the Université de Sherbrooke, Charles is an intern in Michelle Scott and Karine Choquet's labs for fall 2023. His project is about exploring how the knockdown of splicing factors affects the retention of introns containing snoRNAs.
Michel graduated from the University of Sherbrooke in Biology. He started his master's degree in the winter of 2023 in the laboratory of Pr. Sherif Abou Elela in co-direction with Pre. Michelle Scott. His last internship was in the laboratory of Pr. Sherif Abou Elela and he was involved in the creation of a strain without intron in yeast. His project focuses on the discovery of the role and involvement of snoRNAs in the regulation of alternative splicing.
After a brief career as horticulturist, Francis is currently back to school and completing his second year of the bachelor's degree in Biology. During his first year, he discovered bioinformatic and since has a strong interest for it. He's currently doing an intership at Michelle Scott's lab and studying the snoRNA in C. merolae.
Outside of school and biology, Francis loves cats, bikes, plants and outdoor activities.
Audrey is an undergraduate in molecular and cellular biology at the University of Sherbrooke. She is currently doing her T1 internship in Michelle Scott's lab, working on predicting and characterizing snoRNAs expressed in the protist Tetrahymena thermophila. She enjoys spending her free time reading fantasy novels and playing video games.
Dipika is a bachelor student in Health Biochemistry at University of Sherbrooke. She’s currently an intern in Michelle Scott’s lab this fall semester 2021 working on the genome annotation of the red algae. She enjoys watching Marvel movies in her free time.
Alexandre is currently completing his bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Sherbrooke. He developped a passion for programming when he was previously studying in mechanical engineering and hasn't looked back since. For his internship, Alexandre is working on the role of introns in response to starvation in yeast. He likes playing video games but mostly spends his free time sports climbing.
Christophe is a biotechnological engineering student, and is currently completing the third year of his bachelor's degree. His one-session internship consists of measuring the performance of SnoGloBe, a predictor of type C/D snoRNA interactions created by Gabrielle Deschamps-Francoeur, in yeast and mice. In his spare time, Christophe likes to play sports and video games, and solve rubik's cube.

Cédric is a student in biotechnological engineering. Cédric is working on the classification of snoRNA based on sequence identity. In his free time, Cédric brews beers and reads sci-fi books.
Annabelle is an undergraduate student in biochemistry at the Université de Sherbrooke. She is currently carrying out her first experiments in bioinformatics as part of her T2 internship with Michelle Scott's laboratory team. Her project is focused on determining the presence of polymorphisms in human snoRNAs.
Leaving her scientific side for her studies, Annabelle enjoys exploring her artistic side in her spare time, especially with her project to write a fantasy novel.
Stacey is a bachelor's student in biotechnological engineering and is currently completing her second year. She is doing her second internship in Michelle Scott's laboratory where she is working for the first time in bioinformatics, a field she affectionates particularly. Outdoor enthusiast, she spends a lot of time in the mountains, on race tracks and on icy trails. Pretty involved with her university, she is an active member of the Groupe de Collaboration Internationale de l'Université de Sherbrooke (GCIUS) with which she will carry out an international cooperation project in India in the fall of 2020.
Danny obtained a bachelor and master's degree in biochemistry from the Université de Sherbrooke in 2011 and 2013 respectively. During the next 6 years, he worked as a Research Assistant in a laboratory focused on, among other things, post-transcriptional gene regulation and ribosome biogenesis. In 2017, in his spare time, Danny began discovering the basics of computer programming. Already a big fan of puzzles and problem solving, he rapidly developed a passion for it. This led to the decision to merge biology and computer sciences in 2019, where he began a PhD degree in Pr. Scott's group. His main project is focused on the study of snoRNAs non-canonical functions.
Tommy is a 3rd year student at the university of Sherbrooke in molecular biology. He is doing his 3rd internship in Michelle's laboratory analysing RNA-RNA interaction data implicating snoRNAs.
Gaspard obtained a bachelor's degree in biology from the Université de Sherbrooke in April 2019. Since he started in professor Michelle Scott's group in the winter of 2018 for research credits, he has never left the laboratory and started his master's degree in May 2019. Using new RNA-seq methodologies, Gaspard is interested in correctly characterizing the budding yeast's transcriptome and improving it's genomic annotation.
He also stands for reproducible science and it will be his pleasure to tell you about Snakemake. On his free time, Gaspard can be found road/mountain biking, climbing, backcountry skiing, playing outdoors.
Étienne obtained a bachelor's degree in molecular and cellular biology from Université de Sherbrooke in December 2019. During that time, he completed his T2 internship in Michelle Scott's lab in fall 2018 and returned during the subsequent winter and fall semesters to do research credits. He has now started his PhD degree in the lab, with an addition of Pierre-Étienne Jacques as his co-supervisor. His project centers around the characterization of the human snoRNome.

Laurence graduated from Bishop's University in Biochemistry. She began her master's degree in the summer of 2018 in the laboratory of Sherif Abou Elela codirected with Michelle Scott. Her project is about understanding the role and mechanism of overexpressed snoRNAs in high-grade ovarian cancer to discover biomarkers as earlier diagnostic tools for this very aggressive cancer.
Hoang Dong completed a bachelor in biology at the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse. In order to finalize his master degree in bioinformatics, he obtained a intership for the winter session at the bioinformatic lab of Michelle Scott, co-supervised by Maxime Richer and Andréa Allaire with the aim of discovering new molecular and genetic biomarkers that would allow for a reliable classification of humain brain cancer malignancy.
Hoang Dong, with his common contraction Hoang, discovered that he loved bioinformatic as much as Quebec beers.
Philia is a 2017 Université de Sherbrooke graduate in health biochemistry who first started working at Scott lab in the fall of 2016 doing research credits. Philia would go on to do additional research credits in the winter before interning during the summer and fall semesters consecutively. Philia now pursues graduate studies in biochemistry.

Joël is a biotechnological engineer bachelor student of Université de Sherbrooke and spent the 2017 winter session in Michelle Scott’s laboratory. During his stay, Joël worked on the regulation of proteins localization with a particular interest to nuclear proteins intended for mitochondria. Joël also had the opportunity to write a text about himself at the third person.
Yvan is currently doing a bio-informatic internship for Pr Scott's laboratory as an undergraduate student in computer science.
Having lived more than a thousand year, Yvan is currently in the process of perfecting a tool which purpose is hiding in the depths of the abyss.
Nevertheless,some rumors tell the legend of a certain project consisting of providing a graphical representation of a gene, its transcripts, its exons and its domains for every one to use. But rumors will always be rumors right?
When he is away from the lab, Yvan can be seen sleeping all day long, gaming, watching movies/series, chilling at restaurants and cinemas, reading and watching various things from the range of scientific articles to the infamous "Epic sax guy 10 hours".
Safa is a PhD student in Computer Sciences with Bioinformatics profile at "Université de Sherbrooke". She is studying under the supervision of Pr. Aïda Ouangraoua and Pr. Michelle Scott. Her project is focused on representation and prediction of genes structures.
She holds a geomatic master degree with remote sensing specialization from "Université de Sherbrooke", in which she performed a computational analysis of NASA satellite images in order to estimate the soil moisture in forest areas. She received her bachelor's degree in mathematics-informatics from the faculty of sciences of Sfax in Tunisia.

Gabrielle obtained a bachelor's degree in biotechnological engineering from the University of Sherbrooke. She started her master’s degree in May 2016 in Professor Michelle Scott's group in which she completed two internships during her undergraduate studies. In January 2018, she did a fast-track to a doctorate taking interest in machine learning. Among her hobbies are baking and horticulture, both of which are well appreciated by her colleagues!
Daniel got a bachelor degree in Law in Brazil, then went on to doing two years of Medicine before accepting a scholarship to study Computer Science for one year in Canada. Evidently a very usual path. Much to his surprise and happiness, what should be a temporary detour turned out to be the best decision of his life, and he is now a happy computer scientist in the making. Daniel is excited to join Pr. Scott's group and use computer science allied to his bit of background from medicine.

Mikael completed a Business Informatics college diplome at "CEGEP de Rimouski". That formation gave him possibilities to work in science. Then he has been hired at Maurice Lamontagne Institute (MLI) as a technician and after, at Laurentian Forestry Centre (LFC) as a programmer for Guy LaRocque on the ZELIG-CFS gap model, a forest succession model.
As soon as he got his college diploma, he knew that he would going to go to study at university which he began in fall of 2013 at University of Sherbrooke.
In the context of his undergraduated formation, he completed two internships as a programmer for Michelle Scott where he, amongst others, built the content management system (CMS) used to manage the current website and contribute on the implementation of G4RNA and AS-MOTIF (comming soon).
Philippe completed his bachelor degree in biochemestry from Université de Sherbrooke since 2014 and is currently doing is bachelor degree in computer engineering. His internship in professor Michelle Scott's lab mixes well these two passions.
Vincent obtained his bachelor molecular biology at the University of Sherbrooke and then began his master degree on the implication of snoRNAs in the regulation of alternative splicing and the expression of transcripts at Michelle Scott’s bioinformatics lab. He was born in the depths of the forest in the small county of La Tuque where he became an adept of hunting, fishing, botanic and mycology.
Jean-Michel is a PhD candidate co-directed by professors Jean-Pierre Perreault and Michelle Scott since January 2014. He completed his bachelor degree at Université de Sherbrooke in biochemistry. Jean-Michel is the current webmaster and developper of G4RNA's tools.
Audrey has been studying medecine for two years at the Université de Sherbrooke. She did two interships in Michelle Scott’s lab in 2013 and 2014. She is now completing a master degree in order to get a M.D.-M.Sc. diploma, which will allow her to combine research and clinical practice. She is working on the characterisation of the snoRNAs.
Lori is currently doing a bioinformatic internship in Dr. Scott and Dr. Bachand’s laboratory and will start her third and last year of undergraduate studies in the field of computer science at Bishop’s University. When she isn’t in the lab, Lori can be found speeding down a ski slope or relaxing while fishing on a lake. She is also a huge Harry Potter fan!

Mélodie obtained a cellular bilogy and physiologie license as well as a master in biohealth : genes, cells and development at Université Pauls Sabatier in Toulouse, France.
A major proportion of biological analysis are heading toward high-troughput methods. Mélodie went through a bioinformatic formation at Université de Toulouse in order to understand and analyse by herself every steps of her future research.
It led her to join Michelle Scott's research group in co-direction with Sherif Abou Elela as a M.Sc candidate.
Despite the obvious challenges a young woman from southern France must face to adapt to the climate and public transport network of Sherbrooke, Mélodie's french accent from Toulouse survived the winter.
